Nearly Normal

As I've noted in previous e-Alerts, celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder in which gluten (a component of grain) obstructs absorption of nutrients in the small intestine. Untreated, chronic CD can lead to malnutrition, cognitive decline, poor blood sugar management, headaches, fatigue, and severe gastrointestinal problems.

Lollypops Dump?

Apparently consumers are turned off by product labels that indicate the food has been irradiated. So the proposed rule would allow some foods to use the word "pasteurized" instead of "irradiated," even though the pasteurization process is completely different than the process of exposing food to radiation.

These juices should also be avoided with cholesterol lowering statin drugs (such as Lipitor), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (such as Prozac) and, as mentioned above, drugs that manage blood pressure.

"We caught it early."

Researchers from three universities in the Northeastern U.S. recently reported on the results of a trial that tested an electroencephalogram (EEG) procedure in more than 70 subjects – some with AD and some without. Their EEG examination clearly demonstrated that the brains of Alzheimer's patients react differently than the brains of healthy subjects when given a series of auditory stimuli. The accuracy rate of the EEG test was more than 80 percent overall.
